Did PMK Founder S. Ramadoss Reject Anbumani’s NDA Talks?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chennai, Jan 8 (NationPress) Following PMK Anbumani Ramadoss's announcement regarding his party's participation in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections as part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by the AIADMK, Pattali Makkal Katchi founder S. Ramadoss on Thursday (January 8) firmly dismissed the initiative, labeling the discussions as “illegal” and unauthorized.
During a press briefing at his home in Thailapuram village, located in the Villupuram district, Ramadoss emphasized that only he possesses the authority to negotiate and finalize electoral alliances on behalf of the PMK.
He characterized reports of Anbumani engaging in seat-sharing discussions with the AIADMK for the NDA as a “mockery” and contended that such actions displayed contempt of court, considering the ongoing internal conflict within the party.
“As far as the PMK is concerned, the party cadres are with me,” Ramadoss stated.
He accused a small faction of leaders, whom he had previously supported within the party, of defecting for financial gains.
Reiterating his authoritative stance, he stated he had been officially authorized by both the General Council and the Executive Council of the PMK to make decisions regarding electoral alliances.
In a sharp criticism directed at his estranged son, Ramadoss claimed that most party workers and the public have recognized what he termed Anbumani’s “betrayal”.
“People will not vote for a person who has betrayed his own father,” he asserted, highlighting the increasing divide within the party's first family.
Ramadoss further mentioned that the PMK, under his guidance, would independently pursue alliance discussions and that the coalition in which the party ultimately participates would likely govern Tamil Nadu.
He indicated that the PMK's internal regulations grant the authority to decide on alliances solely to the founder.
Specifically addressing reports of the AIADMK finalizing seat-sharing arrangements with Anbumani, Ramadoss stated the PMK would initially consult its senior leaders and functionaries, incorporating their insights before reaching a conclusive decision.
He concluded by mentioning that the party would disclose its official alliance stance within the coming days, signaling that the PMK’s electoral strategy for 2026 remains open and contested.
