Johannesburg, Sep 3 (NationPress) South Africa has chosen to rely on seasoned players by announcing a roster of familiar faces for both the tour of Pakistan and the crucial 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup.
Laura Wolvaardt will captain a 15-member team that features the experienced group of Chloe Tryon, Marizanne Kapp, Ayabonga Khaka, and Sune Luus. Joining them are dynamic batter Tazmin Brits along with all-rounders Nadine de Klerk, Anneke Bosch, Annerie Dercksen, and Nondumiso Shangase.
In the wicketkeeping role, Sinalo Jafta will be joined by 17-year-old Karabo Meso, who is poised to make her senior World Cup debut. The bowling unit will be led by left-arm spinner Nonkululeko Mlaba, with seam support from Masabata Klaas and Tumi Sekhukhune.
Young all-rounder Miane Smit has been named as the traveling reserve, a position she also occupied during last year’s ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, where South Africa ended as runners-up.
“This journey has been incredible. From joining this team to the qualification phase, it has all been about preparing for this moment. We can reflect on the extensive preparation and know we have done our utmost. We are set to present a squad that will make South Africa proud,” said Wolvaardt.
“I am thrilled for all players and management embarking on this journey to India. I cannot wait to see their collective achievements. We are confident that this squad can perform on the global stage, and it's vital to carry that belief, backed by the entire nation,” stated head coach Mandla Mashimbyi.
South Africa will kick off their World Cup journey against England on October 3, followed by matches against New Zealand, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan. The league phase will conclude with a match versus Australia on October 25.
Prior to the tournament, scheduled from September 30 to November 2, South Africa will head to Lahore for a three-match ODI series against Pakistan, with games set for September 16, 19, and 22.
“The squad’s composition reflects a consistent selection process during the recent ICC Women’s Championship cycle, considering the subcontinent conditions and the unique characteristics necessary for success in this tournament,” commented Clinton du Preez, CSA Convenor of Selectors.
“Congratulations to all selected players for this esteemed tournament. Their dedication and sacrifices over the past three years have earned them a chance to represent South Africa at a 50-over World Cup—an honor few players experience in their careers,” he added.
