Ankara, April 15 (NationPress) Tragedy struck at Ayser Calik Middle School in Turkey's Kahramanmaras on Wednesday, where a shooting left four individuals dead, including three students and a teacher, while injuring 20 others.

Kahramanmaras Governor Mukerrem Unluer reported that the perpetrator was an eighth-grade student who brought firearms to the school, as per Turkey's prominent Anadolu news agency.

This incident comes just a day after a former student opened fire at his previous school in Siverek, resulting in injuries to 16 individuals, including students.

Unluer stated to the media, "An 8th-grade student, armed and equipped with weapons in his backpack, entered two classrooms filled with students and began shooting indiscriminately, leading to both fatalities and injuries. Tragically, we report four deaths: one teacher and three students. Currently, 20 people are injured, with four in surgery and reported to be in critical condition. Our response efforts are ongoing."

An investigation into the incident has been initiated. The shooter is deceased, and his father has been taken into custody.

Regarding the shooter's status, Unluer mentioned, "He has also died. He shot himself during the chaos. It's unclear whether this was a suicide or an accidental shooting during the turmoil. The eighth-grade student responsible for this tragedy was one of our own, and his father previously served as a police officer. We suspect he may have taken his father's firearms. He arrived with five guns and seven magazines and entered two classrooms."

Turkey's Justice Minister Akin Gurlek noted that the Kahramanmaraş Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched a full investigation into the school shooting.

"In light of the armed assault that occurred at a school in Kahramanmaraş, the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has promptly initiated an investigation; 3 Deputy Chief Public Prosecutors and 4 Public Prosecutors have been assigned to the case," Gurlek announced on X.

"Our Chief Public Prosecutor and the assigned prosecutors are currently examining the scene. A broadcasting ban has been imposed to maintain the integrity of the investigation, and it is crucial that media outlets exercise the utmost caution regarding the investigation's confidentiality. Updates regarding all phases of the inquiry will be communicated by the relevant authorities," he added.

On Tuesday, a separate shooting incident resulted in injuries to at least 16 individuals when a young man opened fire in the corridor of his former school in Siverek. The attacker subsequently died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Sanliurfa Governor Hasan Sildak visited the injured at Siverek State Hospital concerning the shooting at Ahmet Koyuncu Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School. Speaking to the press, he confirmed that 16 people were hurt when the suspect entered the school and began shooting randomly, as reported by Anadolu Agency. He mentioned that the incident is being investigated from multiple perspectives.
