Mumbai, Aug 14 (NationPress) Producer-actor-director Sachin Pilgaonkar, known for his work in Marathi and Hindi cinema, has shared intriguing insights about the sets of the legendary Hindi film 'Sholay'.
In a recent interview with IANS, timed with the film's 50th anniversary, he revealed that while there were no vanity vans on set, actors enjoyed luxurious, fully air-conditioned make-up rooms located within huts.
These huts also featured in the film's scenes as the village homes during the dacoit raid.
Sachin remarked, “There was no vanity van, but the concept was there. If you’ve watched 'Sholay', you would recognize the entire village of Ramnagaram. It wasn’t a real village, but rather a set. Those huts, while appearing simple from the outside, were equipped with lavish and air-conditioned make-up rooms inside.”
He continued, “Every hut had all the amenities you’d find in a 5-star hotel, including washrooms and other facilities. One of those huts, specifically a make-up room, was allocated to me, and it made me quite happy at the time.”
'Sholay' is hailed as the first Western Spaghetti film in Hindi cinema, featuring a star-studded cast including Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Amjad Khan, Sanjeev Kumar, A. K. Hangal, Sachin, and Hema Malini.
Sachin portrayed the character of Rahim Chacha’s son, who meets his demise at the hands of Gabbar.
This film is revered as one of the greatest in Hindi cinema for its grandeur, performances, technical excellence, action, music, and direction. Notably, it topped the British Film Institute’s 2002 poll of the “Top 10 Indian Films” of all time.
Crafted by the legendary screenwriting duo Salim-Javed, it also holds the distinction of being one of the longest-running films in Indian cinema.
