Mumbai, Aug 14 (NationPress) Producer-actor-director Sachin Pilgaonkar, who portrayed the character of Rahim chacha's son in the legendary film ‘Sholay’, has revealed how he unexpectedly took on the role of an assistant director during the filming.
In a conversation with IANS prior to the film's 50th anniversary, Sachin disclosed that he was specially chosen by director Ramesh Sippy to manage the second unit of the movie.
He explained, “Ramesh Sippy was assembling a second unit for the action scenes, which included both Indian technicians and foreign action directors from Hollywood. However, due to his heavy workload, Ramesh ji couldn't oversee everything himself. The film took two years to complete, and he was immensely busy during that time, which is why he established a second unit.”
Sachin noted that to represent Sippy, he required two individuals, but most were occupied with other tasks.
He continued, “Only two people on set were free: Amjad Khan and myself. Our deep connection to the film caught Ramesh ji's attention, leading to our selection. He instructed us to represent him and provided guidance on various matters since the crew members weren’t as invested in the film as he was.”
“Ramesh ji briefed us, and we kept a close eye on the proceedings, reporting back to him. That's how we ventured into the direction department. Ramesh ji found it hard to decline our assistance,” he added.
In ‘Sholay’, Sachin's character meets his demise at the hands of Gabbar, played by Amjad Khan. The film is set to celebrate 50 years since its release this Friday.
