Mumbai, Aug 14 (NationPress) Producer, actor, and director Sachin Pilgaonkar, who is primarily active in Marathi and Hindi cinema, has disclosed intriguing details about the set of the legendary Hindi film ‘Sholay’.
The veteran actor recently shared insights with IANS as we approach the 50th anniversary of ‘Sholay’. He explained that although no vanity vans were present during the film’s production, the actors enjoyed well-equipped and fully air-conditioned make-up rooms situated within the huts.
These huts also featured in the film as the village homes during the dacoits' raid.
He stated to IANS, “There was no vanity van. But the concept that led to the vanity van was there. If you’ve watched ‘Sholay’, you must have noticed the entire village, Ramnagaram? It wasn’t a real village; it was a constructed set. The huts appeared modest from the outside, but inside, they were fitted with plush, air-conditioned make-up rooms.”
He added, “Facilities such as washrooms and all amenities comparable to a 5-star hotel were available in those huts. I was assigned one of those huts as my make-up room, and I felt quite pleased at that time.”
‘Sholay’ is hailed as the first Western Spaghetti film in Hindi cinema. It featured a star-studded cast including Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Amjad Khan, Sanjeev Kumar, A. K. Hangal, Sachin, and Hema Malini.
The film is regarded as one of the finest in Hindi cinema due to its grandeur, acting, technical excellence, action, music, and direction. It topped the British Film Institute's 2002 poll of the “Top 10 Indian Films” of all time.
Written by the iconic screenwriting duo Salim-Javed, it became one of the longest-running films in Indian cinema.
