Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Panchmahal, Jan 25 (NationPress) A thorough security search was initiated at Godhra railway station in Gujarat on Sunday, following a blast that took place near Sirhind railway station in Punjab’s Fatehgarh Sahib district.
The operation was implemented as a precautionary action after the Punjab incident, with railway and security agencies increasing inspections at major stations to safeguard passenger welfare.
The search at Godhra was conducted from 12 noon to 1 pm, overseen by senior officials from the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF).
Special teams from the Godhra Special Bomb Disposal Squad and an explosive detection dog squad were also involved in this coordinated effort.
During the hour-long operation, security staff meticulously examined railway platforms, passenger waiting areas, circulating and traffic zones, the railway yard, passenger luggage, and locations adjacent to the railway tracks.
Authorities indicated that the inspections were conducted systematically to eliminate the presence of any suspicious materials or unauthorized individuals.
No suspicious object, explosive material, or suspect was identified during the operation, leading to a declaration of normalcy in the situation.
Nonetheless, officials stated that heightened vigilance would persist in the upcoming days.
The precautionary measures were prompted by a blast reported late Friday night near Sirhind railway station in Punjab, which damaged a section of a railway track utilized by freight trains.
The explosion, which occurred around 9:50 pm near Khanpur village, approximately five kilometers from Sirhind station, happened while a freight train was traversing the area.
The blast caused the engine to derail, resulting in a minor injury to the loco pilot, who sustained a cut on his cheek but was reported to be out of danger, with no other injuries documented.
Punjab Minister Sanjeev Arora urged for calm, asserting, “There is no need to panic. The Punjab Police are capable. Any mischief will be addressed appropriately.”
Railway officials reported that repair work on the damaged track was executed overnight with urgency, successfully restoring freight movement by early morning.
Police have registered a case against unidentified individuals under Section 150 of the Railways Act, and security agencies across states remain on high alert following the incident.
