Chandigarh, Jan 22 (NationPress) The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) expressed its deep concern on Wednesday regarding the widespread registration of fraudulent voters in the Shiromani committee elections, along with issues of incomplete voter lists. They urged for an extension in the registration period for new voters.
Members of the Shiromani Committee, led by SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami, convened a meeting at the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) headquarters, chaired by SAD Working President Balwinder Singh Bhundar and Sukhbir Singh Badal.
The meeting documented significant irregularities in the voter lists for the SGPC elections, with members presenting evidence of how the lists were inflated with names of non-Sikhs and how names were added en masse from the Assembly constituency voter list.
Sukhbir Badal informed the media that a party delegation would meet with the Chief Commissioner of Gurdwara Elections, Surinder Singh Saron, on Thursday to discuss the complaints regarding the registration of bogus votes.
“We will inform the Chief Commissioner that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government is attempting to manipulate the gurdwara elections by padding the voter lists with fictitious voters, including those from other faiths. The AAP government is employing every tactic to add ineligible voters to sway the elections,” he asserted.
Senior leader Daljit Singh Cheema mentioned that the SAD delegation would also emphasize the necessity for a thorough examination of the voter lists.
“We will advocate for an extension of the registration period for new voters, as many eligible individuals still need to be included in the voter lists,” he added.
The delegation intends to provide evidence regarding the mass registration of ineligible voters to the Gurdwara Elections office, while party leaders will approach their respective sub-divisional magistrates to demand the removal of all ineligible voters.
