Bhopal, March 9 (NationPress) - Long-time Congress politician and Rajya Sabha member Digvijaya Singh met with the Madhya Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer, Manoj Kumar Shrivastava, on Monday to present a memorandum. He alleged that a significant number of fraudulent names have infiltrated the voter list within the Narela Assembly constituency of Bhopal.

According to Singh, the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) being carried out by the Election Commission of India (ECI) aims to cleanse the voter registry by eliminating deceased and undocumented migrant voters while incorporating new eligible voters.

“However, in stark contrast to this objective, numerous individuals have been wrongfully added to the voter list in Bhopal’s Narela constituency, and many do not even reside at the addresses listed,” Singh asserted.

The former Chief Minister further elaborated that an investigation by Congress volunteers uncovered discrepancies in the final voter list issued on February 21, 2026, revealing numerous names that are unrelated to the actual residential addresses.

To back his claims, Singh noted that the total number of voters registered at specific addresses did not align with the actual number of residents.

For instance, he pointed out that Pokhan Lal Sahu (House number 2) in Ratan Colony, Karond area, is listed with 37 voters, whereas only six reside there.

Additionally, he mentioned that Kamalendra Kumar Gupta (house number 10) has 36 voters registered while his family has only six eligible voters, and Hamir Singh Yadav (house number 21) has 43 registered, while only four are legitimate.

During his discussion with CEO Shrivastava, Singh emphasized that maintaining a correct and transparent voter list is a fundamental constitutional requirement for democracy, asserting that the integrity of the Election Commission hinges on this principle.

In statements to the press, Singh expressed that the Congress party lacks confidence in the SIR process. He insisted that an FIR must be filed against the responsible booth-level officer and their supervisor, advocating for their immediate arrest.

He threatened to stage a protest outside the Election Commission’s office if no FIR is filed regarding these irregularities.

“Any legitimate voter's name that is missing should be reinstated via Form-6, but attempts to manipulate the democratic process by adding fraudulent names will be met with zero tolerance,” he declared.

He also highlighted that he, along with 22 political parties, previously addressed a letter to the Election Commission regarding this issue, which went unacknowledged.

Singh demanded that the State Chief Electoral Officer swiftly remove all fraudulent names from the voter list based on affidavits submitted by homeowners and called for the establishment of an independent committee to conduct a fair investigation into the matter.
