Visakhapatnam, June 18 (NationPress) The President of Congress in Andhra Pradesh, Y.S. Sharmila, accused the former YSRCP administration, led by her brother Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, of engaging in phone tapping against political rivals. She asserted that this operation was a collaborative effort between the then Chief Ministers of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, aimed specifically at her.
While addressing the media, Sharmila claimed that both K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) and Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy were involved in tapping the phones of opposition leaders. She stated that she, her husband, and their close associates fell victim to this surveillance.
Sharmila revealed that YSRCP leader Y. V. Subba Reddy had informed her about the phone tapping, even playing an audio recording of her conversation for her.
She insisted that Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu should initiate a comprehensive investigation into the allegations of phone tapping, expressing her willingness to assist.
Accusing KCR and Jagan Mohan Reddy of having a close alliance, she stated that their actions were intended to undermine her political and financial interests.
Sharmila admitted that she had previously remained silent about the phone tapping due to the political climate in both states. She alleged that both Jagan Mohan Reddy and KCR engaged in misrule, asserting that phone tapping was trivial compared to their transgressions.
The Congress leader claimed her brother plotted against her advancement in politics and business.
In 2021, Sharmila established the YSR Telangana Party, which she later merged with Congress in January of the previous year, leading to her appointment as the leader of Congress in Andhra Pradesh.
During last year's elections, she campaigned vigorously against the ruling YSR Congress, chaired by her brother.
Sharmila's explosive allegations regarding phone tapping come at a time when the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Telangana police is intensifying its inquiries into claims that the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government engaged in phone surveillance of political adversaries, business figures, journalists, and celebrities.
