Hyderabad, June 21 (NationPress) - Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar, who has been summoned as a witness in the alleged phone-tapping scandal, questioned on Saturday why the Congress-led government has not issued notices to former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.
Speaking to reporters in Karimnagar, he expressed concerns over the lack of action against Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) president and former chief minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) along with his son and BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao (KTR), despite the statements from the accused.
“Is there a secret agreement between Congress and BRS? Why are they shielding each other?” he questioned.
Bandi pointed out that former DCP Radhakishan Rao, one of the accused, has already claimed that the phone-tapping was executed under the orders of higher authorities.
He alleged that the phone-tapping activities took place from Hyderabad and Sircilla, KTR’s Assembly constituency, asserting that he was the first to bring the issue of phone tapping to light.
Bandi Sanjay also raised suspicions regarding KTR’s trip to the United States right before the arrival of the prime accused and former chief of the State Intelligence Bureau (SIB), Prabhakar Rao, in India.
Claiming that the Congress government is attempting to protect Prabhakar Rao, Bandi demanded that the case be transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
He questioned why the Congress government was giving leniency to Prabhakar Rao instead of holding him accountable in court, stating that the former IPS official has ruined many lives, including those of BRS leaders and their families.
Bandi also alleged that he was arrested in the 10th exam paper leak case at the behest of Prabhakar Rao.
The Minister of State confirmed that he has been contacted by officials from the Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is probing the phone-tapping case, to provide his statement.
He will be the second significant figure to testify before the SIT as a witness, following Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Mahesh Kumar Goud, who spoke to the SIT three days ago.
Prabhakar Rao has appeared before the SIT for questioning for the fifth consecutive day, where he was interrogated regarding the extensive list of phone numbers placed under surveillance during BRS’s tenure.
He allegedly formed a team within the SIB to monitor the phones of opposition leaders, dissenters within BRS, business figures, celebrities, journalists, and even judges.
These phone-tapping accusations surfaced in March of last year, a few months after the BRS lost power to the Congress party.
Last year, police apprehended four officials in connection with the case, who were later released on bail.
Prabhakar Rao, who was in the US when the case was initiated, returned to India two weeks ago following directives from the Supreme Court.
