Hyderabad, Aug 12 (NationPress) Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) has dispatched a legal notice to Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar, labeling his comments as "groundless and slanderous" in relation to the alleged phone-tapping scandal.
The notice demands that Bandi Sanjay publicly apologize to KTR and his family without any conditions, along with a pledge to refrain from making any similar defamatory remarks in the future. It warns that if he does not comply within a week, both civil and criminal legal actions will be pursued, holding Bandi Sanjay fully accountable for any damages incurred.
The Central Minister made accusations against KTR and former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) after testifying as a witness before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on August 8.
On the same day, KTR demanded a public apology within 48 hours, cautioning that he would initiate legal proceedings should Bandi Sanjay fail to comply.
Bandi Sanjay alleged that KCR and KTR, during their tenure with BRS, intercepted the phones of numerous political figures, including family members, ministers, and MLAs from their own party, as well as businessmen, attorneys, and celebrities.
The legal notice, sent through KTR's attorney, highlights remarks made by Bandi Sanjay during a press briefing on August 8, which KTR claims were “untrue, reckless, and aimed at damaging his reputation.”
The legal representatives stated that such accusations, lacking evidence, are inappropriate for a Union Minister and a Member of Parliament, representing a calculated effort to tarnish another elected official's image.
KTR's legal team accused Bandi Sanjay of continually making unsubstantiated claims for political gain and media attention. They emphasized that KTR, who has contributed to the state in various ministerial capacities since Telangana's establishment, has an impeccable record of public service, and such defamatory claims are significantly harming his reputation.
The counsel asserted that none of the allegations made during the August 8 press conference were substantiated by evidence and accused the Union Minister of misusing his position to launch personal attacks. They warned that any further “wild, unfounded, and malicious” statements would result in severe legal repercussions.
Following KTR's announcement of impending legal action on August 8, Bandi Sanjay remarked that the BRS leader would feel embarrassed discussing legal notices after his engagement in illicit activities.
"You are a coward hiding behind legal notices. Your past attempts were futile. I won't fall for your tricks. Just before Rakhi, you are dodging your sister, whose phone was tapped, an issue she herself acknowledged. Forget about giving me 48 hours—your time is running out, and your dark secrets will soon come to light, leaving you with nowhere to escape," the BJP leader tweeted.
