Mumbai, Aug 1 (NationPress) Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced on Friday that the decision to remove Manikrao Kokate from his position was made collaboratively with Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar. He emphasized that a warning has been issued to all MLAs to 'act responsibly' and refrain from undermining the government's 'positive efforts'.
Fadnavis highlighted the backlash following Kokate's controversial video where he was seen playing rummy and disparaging the government. As a result, Kokate's portfolio has been shifted to Sports, Youth Welfare, Minority Affairs, and Auqaf, while Dattatray Bharane has taken over the Agriculture Department. This change comes amidst mounting pressure from opposition parties and farmers' organizations demanding Kokate's resignation for his disrespectful remarks towards farmers in distress.
When asked about potential cabinet reshuffles, Fadnavis indicated that there are no current plans for further changes. He reiterated that all ministers have been cautioned against any form of indiscipline and are expected to concentrate on their respective departmental duties.
Fadnavis stated, 'Undoubtedly, if anyone engages in indiscipline, it will not be tolerated, and appropriate actions will follow. This is a warning to all. We are here to serve the public, and our actions and conduct are under scrutiny.'
Following the cabinet meeting, Shinde and Pawar met with all ministers to advise them not to initiate controversies that could tarnish the government's image and undermine its accomplishments.
The Chief Minister has made it clear that he will not hesitate to take action against anyone who creates controversies that could harm the government's reputation.
Regarding his meeting with former minister and NCP legislator Dhananjay Munde, Fadnavis clarified that the discussions were unrelated to his possible re-entry into the cabinet.
In his first response to the decision, Minister Kokate expressed his acceptance of the Chief Minister's decision, stating he would align his efforts accordingly.
Kokate further remarked on Bharane’s new role, noting, 'He is a farmer's son with the necessary expertise in agriculture. Thus, he is well-suited for this responsibility. I am confident that the Agriculture Department will thrive, and I am ready to offer my full support should he request it.'
When questioned about his feelings regarding this change, Kokate clarified that he is not upset but rather content.
