Bengaluru, Dec 27 (NationPress) Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar requested Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to refrain from meddling in Karnataka's matters, responding sharply to the latter's comments regarding a so-called 'bulldozer model'.
Reportedly, CM Vijayan asserted that the Karnataka government was employing a 'bulldozer model' similar to that of Uttar Pradesh to displace Muslims in Bengaluru.
In a media address in Bengaluru, Shivakumar, who also oversees Bengaluru Development, stated, 'Mr. Pinarayi should not interfere in our state's affairs without understanding the realities. These statements are mere political ploys ahead of the elections. Those displaced with legitimate documentation and residents of Karnataka will definitely receive assistance.'
'The huts in question appeared suddenly. After discussions with local representatives and officials, an order was issued for the land to be vacated, and the area has since been cleared. Our actions are not intended to inconvenience anyone. Eligible individuals will be provided with rehabilitation. The slum was established on a quarry site designated for garbage disposal a decade ago,' he explained.
Labeling the remarks from the Kerala CM as unfortunate, Shivakumar emphasized that senior leaders like Vijayan should first comprehend the facts surrounding Bengaluru.
'Some individuals have illegally encroached upon a quarry pit that serves as a solid waste dumping site. This is a hazardous area posing serious health risks,' he added.
'We are well-acquainted with Bengaluru and are determined to prevent the land mafia from establishing slums. We are committed to safeguarding government land,' Shivakumar asserted.
He mentioned that the state is facilitating housing for eligible individuals under the Rajiv Gandhi Housing Scheme.
Shivakumar insisted that the state government has not utilized bulldozers, stating, 'We merely vacated a public area in the city center, which is designated for waste disposal, and we cannot permit encroachments there.'
He claimed that protests at the site were politically motivated.
