Bengaluru, Jan 1 (NationPress) In the ongoing demolition controversy, members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Mandya district, Karnataka, have addressed an open letter to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. They assert that if he chooses to intervene, both Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar will respond promptly to their demands.
Following comments from Chief Minister Vijayan, who accused the Karnataka government of employing a 'bulldozer' tactic reminiscent of Uttar Pradesh to demolish homes of Muslims in Bengaluru, the AICC stepped in. This led to the Congress-led Karnataka government announcing measures for rehabilitation and housing for encroachers.
In reaction to these developments, BJP members in Mandya staged protests and sent a letter to the Kerala CM.
"Numerous impoverished individuals across our district and the state lack proper housing. Should you advocate for them, we firmly believe that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister Shivakumar will ensure housing allocations," the letter asserted.
The Kannada letter further noted, "Your comments on social media lead to immediate housing for illegal immigrants."
"When you wrote a post advocating for humanitarian arrangements for the illegal Kogilu settlement in Bengaluru, our Karnataka government swiftly announced new housing provisions at Baiyappanahalli. This has made the people of Karnataka aware of your influence," the letter expressed.
"In Karnataka, approximately 14,000 individuals have lost their homes due to natural disasters such as floods and landslides. They are currently residing in plastic shelters without any protection. Thousands have awaited housing under various schemes for years, akin to 'thirsty birds'.
"If you would kindly express concern for the impoverished in our state, we believe our Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister will definitely heed your counsel. Many are suggesting that the entire Karnataka administration has been effectively transferred to you via a General Power of Attorney," the BJP wrote.
"We revere Lord Rama, Krishna, Shiva, and Parvati—we kindly request your compassion as well," the letter continued.
Furthermore, the letter highlighted past instances when the Karnataka government lifted night traffic restrictions in the Bandipur reserve forest area, compensated for an elephant accident in Kerala, and provided funds for housing in Kerala, demonstrating the Kerala CM's considerable influence.
"Thus, we earnestly implore you to advocate for us too. If possible, please also urge your state's MP and AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal to write a post," the BJP members concluded.
"We once believed that CM Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM Shivakumar were powerful leaders. We were unaware of their vulnerability to you. We realize now that you hold the title of 'super CM'. Our CM and Deputy CM appear to be vying for position while catering to one segment of society. As individuals who wear a tilak and worship Hindu deities, we hope you can also show benevolence towards us. In total, nearly 4 million people in Karnataka are in need of housing solutions. All should be treated equally, yet it seems only one group is prioritized," the letter concluded.
