Mysuru, Oct 15 (NationPress) Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah emphasized that for meaningful transformation in a rigid society, it is essential for the teachings and philosophies of Buddha, Basava, and Ambedkar to reach a wider audience.

He made these remarks during the inauguration of the International Buddhist Cultural Confluence “Buddha Mahasammelana and Journey of Human Fraternity 2025” held at Maharaja’s College Grounds in Mysuru on Wednesday.

This significant event was co-organized by the Karnataka State Bhikshu Association, various Buddhist organizations, Ambedkarite associations, and the Vishvamaitri Buddha Vihara.

He stressed the importance of embracing religious tolerance and coexistence. “Inequality exists because not everyone has equal opportunities. Ambedkar emphasized that true equality is achievable only when every individual acquires social and economic strength. Peace, non-violence, and truth can thrive in our nation only when individuals accept tolerance towards all religions and coexistence,” he stated.

“We must overcome the mindset of slavery,” he urged, adding, “The Congress government deserves recognition for implementing the SCSP/TSP Act. Apart from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka, no other states have enacted it. Every economically disadvantaged person must be empowered.”

“It is vital to abandon the mentality of slavery so that everyone can exist as human beings. Love should triumph over hatred. The principles of Buddha and Basavanna must be integrated into our lives to lay the groundwork for an equitable society,” CM Siddaramaiah asserted.

Under the SCSP/TSP scheme, an allocation of Rs 42,000 crore has been made. To foster an equal society, every individual needs to gain economic strength. Our government has instituted reservations in contracts. Although the Supreme Court has not permitted reservations in promotions, a committee was formed, and based on its findings, reservations in promotions have been implemented, he stated.

He pointed out that, in addition to raising awareness about equality, supportive programs enhance social and economic strength. To combat inequality, our government has launched various “Bhagya” and “Guarantee” schemes throughout our tenure.

Due to the Shakti scheme, during the visit to the Hasanamba temple, out of 9 lakh devotees, nearly 70 percent were women. Women now travel independently to temples and workplaces, achieving self-reliance,” he noted.

Through the guarantee schemes, each family is now receiving between Rs 4,000 to Rs 5,000 monthly, he added.

To eradicate social inequality, individuals must be empowered educationally, socially, and economically. Influential reformers like Buddha, Basavanna, and Ambedkar have worked towards this goal. The caste system remains deeply rooted in society, and due to the machinations of certain Manuists, genuine change has yet to occur.

The Chief Minister mentioned that Minister Priyanka Kharge had communicated with the government, requesting restrictions on organizations operating in public spaces, and added that the Chief Secretary has been instructed to prepare a report on the measures taken in Tamil Nadu.

“There will always be challenges to our efforts for social transformation. Our government has enacted laws to combat superstitions and outdated practices,” he continued.

Siddaramaiah remarked that Ambedkar did not advocate for any single caste but championed equality and envisioned a society where all castes were treated equally.

“A stagnant society must be revitalized through economic empowerment. Ambedkar promoted the mantra of education, organization, and struggle as a path to social change. Historically, Shudras and women faced barriers to education,” he expressed.

Reflecting on his student days, Siddaramaiah noted that despite numerous reform efforts, caste-based discrimination continues to resurface in society.
