Srinagar, Oct 15 (NationPress) In a significant move against drug trafficking, police in J&K's Kulgam district have attached the assets of a detained drug supplier under the Prevention of Illegal Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act. The operation was directed towards dismantling the narcotics trade prevalent in the region.
According to a police statement, the property seized belongs to Ghulam Rasool Dar, son of the late Abdul Rehman Dar, who resides in Vidoe Mishipora, near Police Station Qaimoh. This action was taken under the provisions of Section 68-F of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
Dar is implicated in FIR No. 62/2021 under Sections 8/15-29 of the NDPS Act, where a substantial quantity of 520 kg of poppy straw was recovered. He is currently detained under the Prevention of Illicit Trafficking in NDPS Act (PIT-NDPS) and is serving time at Central Jail Kot Bhalwal in Jammu.
The property, valued at approximately Rs 61 lakh, has been identified as having been acquired through illicit drug trafficking activities. The attachment was carried out by a police team in the presence of local residents and an executive magistrate. This decisive step is part of an ongoing effort by Kulgam police to combat drug trafficking and disrupt the financing sources of this illegal trade.
SSP Kulgam, Anayat Ali Choudhary, reaffirmed the commitment of Kulgam police to eradicate the drug menace from society.
