SIFPA Opposes Unilateral Decisions by OTT Distributors and Exhibitors
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, April 19 (NationPress) The South Indian Film Producers Association (SIFPA) has made a decisive statement concerning the ongoing debate regarding the OTT window for films.
On Sunday, the organization utilized their X platform, formerly known as Twitter, to convey a letter directed at producers, exhibitors, and distributors.
The South Indian Film Producers Association, which includes the Telugu Film Producers Council, Active Telugu Film Producers Guild, Tamil Film Producers Council, Tamil Film Active Producers Association, and Kerala Film Producers Association, gathered in Hyderabad to discuss the proposed OTT window regulations from various Theatre Owners and Exhibitors Associations.
The association announced the formation of a Steering Committee, consisting of representatives from all language industry associations, tasked with engaging all stakeholders from different sectors to determine actionable steps for the industry’s advancement.
Today, the SIFPA specifically addressed recent restrictions imposed by certain associations in Tamil Nadu that prevent film releases unless producers commit to an 8-week OTT window. Following a unanimous discussion among representatives across the South Indian film industry, several conclusions were drawn.
The organization has firmly rejected any unilateral actions to promote fairness among producers, distributors, and exhibitors. No association can make unilateral decisions affecting the entire ecosystem without a formal consultative process.
Furthermore, SIFPA has called for a stakeholder consultation, proposing a joint meeting with all parties on May 10, 2026, in Hyderabad.
Producer members are encouraged to maintain their current production and release schedules and are specifically instructed not to issue individual letters of commitment regarding the OTT window to any association until a collective decision is achieved among all stakeholders in South India.
