Guwahati, Sep 30 (NationPress) The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Assam Police, in collaboration with the Crime Investigation Department (CID), has ramped up its investigation into the enigmatic passing of the legendary singer Zubeen Garg in Singapore. Several individuals associated with the North East Festival have been summoned for questioning.
On Tuesday, Deputy Superintendent of Police Sandipan Garg appeared before CID officials in Guwahati.
Investigators indicate he was present on the yacht in Singapore when the 52-year-old singer tragically lost his life earlier this month. His testimony is deemed pivotal in piecing together the final moments leading to the incident. Sandipan is a relative of the late singer.
Previously, on Monday, musician Shekharjyoti Goswami and festival organizer Amritprabha Mahanta were interrogated for several hours. Both were released late that evening after extensive questioning.
“We answered all inquiries. Each of us was questioned separately by the CID. We traveled to Singapore for the festival and were told to return if necessary,” Goswami informed reporters after leaving the CID office.
According to CID sources, at least eight other individuals connected to the North East Festival, where Zubeen Garg was slated to perform, were also scrutinized.
All ten individuals, including Goswami and Mahanta, have been instructed to remain accessible for further inquiries.
The investigation is currently concentrating on two crucial elements: whether the festival was officially taking place at the time of Garg’s death, and the exact timeline of events aboard the yacht before he was rescued from the waters by Singapore Police.
Officials believe that testimonies from those present could help clarify inconsistencies in previous reports and ascertain if there were lapses in safety or oversight.
The SIT, established by the Assam government in response to public demands for a comprehensive investigation, has been working closely with Singaporean authorities while simultaneously collecting evidence and witness statements in India.
With the second autopsy report pending and lookout notices already issued against two organizers, the investigation remains delicate.
Zubeen Garg, cherished throughout Assam and the North East for his musical and cultural contributions, tragically passed away in Singapore on September 19, leaving a profound impact on the region and igniting calls for justice.
