Guwahati, Oct 7 (NationPress) In a significant development, the CID of Assam Police has summoned at least eight Assamese individuals residing in Singapore who were present on the yacht at the time of Zubeen Garg's tragic passing. Among them, Rup Kamal Kalita is scheduled to arrive in Guwahati on Tuesday to provide his testimony to the investigative team regarding the untimely death of the renowned singer.
Despite the summons, police officials report that the remaining seven Assamese individuals have yet to respond.
Sources indicate that Kalita hails from the Kahilipara area in Guwahati, which was also the residence of the late music legend Zubeen Garg.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed optimism, stating, "We hope the others will follow suit. While some remain hesitant to return, we are applying pressure, as their testimonies are crucial for expediting the investigation."
The CM emphasized that the Assam Police will not travel to Singapore due to jurisdictional limitations.
"The Centre has activated the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) between India and Singapore, allowing the Singaporean authorities to share the findings from their investigation into Zubeen Garg's death with Indian officials," he added.
Reports indicate that the CID has issued notices to eight Assamese NRIs in Singapore who were on the yacht during the incident.

Simultaneously, pressure is mounting on North East India Festival organizer Shyamkanu Mahanta, currently in police custody due to his alleged role in Zubeen Garg's premature demise.
CM Sarma mentioned that both the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Income Tax (IT) Department will soon initiate inquiries into purported financial irregularities tied to Mahanta.
He assured that the state government is in active communication with these central agencies to facilitate a professional and transparent investigation.
"I am confident that the ED and IT Department will scrutinize the financial irregularities associated with Mahanta. We are collaborating closely to ensure that no one involved in Zubeen Garg's death evades accountability," he stated.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister noted Mahanta's tendency to network with high-profile individuals.
"His primary endeavor appeared to be taking photographs with a variety of people. If the images stored on his mobile device were disclosed, they would feature politicians, journalists, and numerous others. However, such images are irrelevant to the current investigation. We also have records of various individuals who traveled with him to Bangkok, but those details do not pertain to this case," CM Sarma concluded.
