Guwahati, Sep 27 (NationPress) Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia expressed his deep sorrow on Friday regarding the passing of the iconic singer and cultural emblem of Assam, Zubeen Garg. Scindia, who is currently on a two-day tour of the northeast, remarked that Zubeen Garg's music and voice played a pivotal role in uniting Assam, the Northeast, and India as a whole.
“His contributions will be etched in our memories, and the music community will profoundly miss him,” he stated.
In a related development, the Assam Police's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) issued notices on Friday to individuals who were either present during or are knowledgeable about the circumstances surrounding Zubeen Garg's tragic death in Singapore last week.
Those individuals have been summoned to appear within 10 days to provide their statements, confirmed a senior officer.
A 10-member Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by Special DGP M.P. Gupta, is conducting the inquiry.
“The investigation into Zubeen Garg’s death is progressing. Notices have been sent to all individuals connected with the events leading up to his passing. They are required to testify before investigators within 10 days,” the official mentioned.
The SIT team has continued searches at the residence of Shyamkanu Mahanta, the organizer of the North East India Festival, marking the second consecutive day of investigations.
Previously, the residences of Garg’s manager Siddhartha Sharma and musician Shekhar Jyoti Goswami—who accompanied the singer during the yacht journey in Singapore on September 19 when he tragically drowned—were also searched.
The CID has expanded its investigation to include members of the Assamese diaspora in Singapore who were present on the yacht. Statements from artists and individuals within the state's cultural community were also collected at the CID office in Guwahati on Friday.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma earlier assured that if the findings of the SIT do not meet public expectations, the state government would advocate for transferring the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
