Guwahati, Sep 20 (NationPress) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is set to receive the mortal remains of the renowned singer Zubeen Garg today in New Delhi.

According to CM Sarma, the autopsy of Garg has been finalized in Singapore, and the body has been handed over to the Indian ambassador along with a close friend of the late artist.

CM Sarma stated, "The mortal remains of Zubeen Garg will arrive in New Delhi today, and we will transport him back to Guwahati on Sunday at 6 a.m."

The singer's body will initially be taken to his residence in Kahilipara, Guwahati.

"I have instructed the police to facilitate a proper arrangement so that Zubeen's family can share some private moments with him one last time. The mortal remains of this legendary singer will subsequently be taken to Sarusajai Sports Complex, where the public can pay their final tributes to him," added CM Sarma.

In the meantime, the Chief Minister has announced a CID investigation into the circumstances surrounding Garg's sudden passing in Singapore.

The state government has directed the Assam Police to transfer all related FIRs to the CID for an in-depth inquiry.

"Several FIRs have been lodged against Shri Syamkanu Mahanta and Shri Sidharth Sarma concerning the tragic and untimely demise of our beloved Zubeen Garg. I have instructed the DGP to hand over all cases to the CID for a thorough investigation," said CM Sarma.

Notably, Shyam Kanu Mahanta was the main organizer of the Northeast Festival, while Siddhartha Sharma served as Garg's manager.

The 52-year-old artist, famed nationwide for his iconic song 'Ya Ali' from the Bollywood film 'Gangster', passed away on Friday afternoon after suffering a seizure while swimming off a yacht in Singapore.

He reportedly experienced breathlessness before collapsing. Despite receiving CPR and being rushed to Singapore General Hospital, he was pronounced dead around 2:50 p.m.

Singaporean authorities have completed the autopsy, with the body formally handed over to members of Garg's entourage under the supervision of Indian embassy officials.

Assam has declared a three-day mourning period from September 20 to 22.

During this period, no official entertainment events, ceremonial functions, or government-hosted dinners will be held.
