Guwahati, Oct 14 (NationPress) At least three more Assamese expatriates who attended the yacht party in Singapore during the final moments of legendary singer Zubeen Garg are scheduled to appear before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Wednesday, as confirmed by officials.
A senior official stated on Tuesday that the Assamese expats residing in Singapore — Sushmita Goswami, Debojyoti Hazarika, and Pratim Bhuyan — will be presenting their statements to the SIT.
Another NRI, Wajid Ahmed, was unable to participate in the session due to his citizenship status in Singapore.
In the meantime, two other Assamese expatriates, Tanmoy Phukan and Abhimanyu Talukdar, who were also at the yacht, appeared before the SIT of Assam Police today.
As per official sources, the SIT is scrutinizing the actions of Phukan and Talukdar, both of whom are believed to have played significant roles in organizing the ill-fated gathering.
Phukan is thought to have handled the yacht booking, while Talukdar, the President of the Assam Association in Singapore, was allegedly involved in coordinating the event.
Investigators have documented detailed statements from them, which may provide essential insights into the events leading to Garg’s death and the identities of attendees at the private gathering.
To date, the SIT has recorded testimonies from seven Assamese NRIs linked to this case.
Previously, Jalongsat Narjari, Parikshit Sharma, and Siddharth Bora had appeared before the investigation team. Additionally, Bhaskarjyoti Dutta, another Assamese NRI based in Singapore, also visited the CID office for questioning, as confirmed by officials.
The ongoing investigation, overseen by top officials of the Assam Police, is being conducted through multiple legal channels, including collaboration with Singaporean authorities via the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT).
Investigators aim to piece together the events that transpired during the singer's last hours on September 19 — the day he reportedly experienced breathing difficulties aboard the yacht — and to ascertain if foul play was involved.
This case continues to attract significant public interest, with fans and cultural figures from the Northeast calling for a transparent and thorough investigation into the sudden demise of one of Assam’s most cherished voices.
