In a related note, the prolonged anti-terrorism operation in the Akhal Devsar forest area of Kulgam district has now entered its 13th day as of Wednesday.
This particular operation stands as the longest-running anti-terrorist action in the Valley.
On the initial night of the confrontation on August 1, one local terrorist was neutralized, and four soldiers sustained injuries. Two of the injured soldiers later succumbed to their critical wounds, while the remaining injured are receiving treatment in medical facilities.
Officials commented that due to the vast and dense nature of the forest area, the operation could extend over a longer duration.
Joint forces, comprising the Indian Army, CRPF, and J&K Police, commenced CASO (Cordon & Search Operations) in the region on August 1.
The Army has deployed Rudra helicopters, drones, and para commandos to ensure the terrorists cannot escape.
Security forces are conducting aggressive operations against terrorists in the hinterland, while the Army remains on high alert guarding the LoC in J&K.
Part of the ongoing aggressive operations by joint forces includes the elimination of three notorious Pakistani terrorists responsible for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, resulting in 26 fatalities.
Three of these terrorists, including Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander Suleman Shah and his two accomplices, Abu Hamza and Jibran Bhai, were neutralized on July 28 in the elevated areas of Dachigam national park at the base of Mahadev mountain peak in the Harwan area of Srinagar.
The Army has designated this operation as ‘Operation Mahadev’.
Following the Pahalgam terror incident, security forces have intensified anti-terror operations targeting armed terrorists, their overground associates, and sympathizers.
