Srinagar, April 23 (NationPress) Vigilant soldiers of the Indian Army successfully thwarted an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s (J&K) Uri sector on Wednesday.
A statement from the Defence Ministry indicated that a firefight ensued between the terrorists and the Army as troops engaged the infiltrators near the Uri Nala area of Baramulla district.
The 15 Corps of the Army, based in Srinagar, reported on X, “On 23 Apr 2025, approximately 2-3 UI terrorists attempted to breach the border near Sarjeevan, Uri Nala, Baramulla. Our alert troops on the LoC confronted and intercepted them, leading to a firefight. The operation is ongoing.”
This recent infiltration attempt comes just a day after Pakistan-backed terrorists perpetrated a brutal attack that claimed the lives of 16 innocent civilians, including two foreigners and two locals.
The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday in the picturesque Baisaran Valley near Pahalgam, where terrorists emerged from dense forests and opened fire on unsuspecting tourists.
Officials confirmed that the ambush resulted in 16 deaths, with numerous others injured, marking it as one of the deadliest terrorist assaults in the region in recent times.
Initial intelligence assessments suggest that the attack was carried out by the Pakistan-based terror group, The Resistance Front, a known faction of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba.
A state of high alert has been declared across J&K, with enhanced security measures implemented at all critical installations.
An NIA team is currently visiting the site of the Pahalgam attack, coinciding with a planned visit by Union Home Minister Amit Shah to the location.
In response to the assault on tourists, an anti-terror operation was quickly initiated in Pahalgam to apprehend the assailants.
Meanwhile, the Union Home Minister conducted a high-level security meeting at the Raj Bhawan in Srinagar to assess the security situation post the Pahalgam terror attack.
After cutting his visit to Saudi Arabia short, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting at the airport with the External Affairs Minister and the National Security Advisor.
