Srinagar, Oct 14 (NationPress) Two terrorists were eliminated as the Indian Army successfully thwarted an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials reported on Tuesday.
According to the officials, vigilant Army personnel detected unusual movement near the LoC.
“An infiltrating group of terrorists was confronted and engaged in a prolonged exchange of gunfire. Thus far, two terrorists have been neutralized in this ongoing operation,” the officials disclosed.
More information is expected to follow, they added.
The Army, in conjunction with security forces, maintains a constant watch on the LOC and the surrounding areas to prevent any infiltration attempts before the mountain passes become inaccessible due to heavy snowfall this winter.
Reports indicate that terrorists are currently positioned at launch pads in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), awaiting an opportunity to infiltrate into Indian territory before the mountain passes are closed.
Officials mentioned that the precise number of terrorists poised for infiltration is variable, but estimates suggest it could be around 100.
The Army, security forces, and J&K Police are conducting robust anti-terror operations within the union territory to dismantle the terror network by targeting terrorists, their overground workers (OGWs), and sympathizers.
The Army is responsible for securing the LoC, while the Border Security Force (BSF) secures the International Border (IB).
Jammu and Kashmir features a 740 km long LoC, while the International Border spans 240 km. The LoC runs through Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora in the Valley, and parts of the Jammu district, whereas the International Border is located in Jammu, Samba, and Kathua districts of the Jammu division.
Terror operatives and handlers across the LoC and International Border in Pakistan are employing drones carrying arms, ammunition, drugs, and cash to perpetuate terrorism in J&K. These supplies are collected by OGWs, associates, or sympathizers and then delivered to the terrorists.
The BSF and the Army have deployed specialized anti-drone technology along the IB and LoC to combat the drone threat.
