New Delhi, Jan 20 (NationPress) Sony Group Corp revealed on Tuesday its plan to divest control of its home entertainment division, which encompasses the renowned Bravia television brand, to the Chinese electronics powerhouse, TCL Electronics Holdings Limited. This move signifies a strategic effort by a Japanese firm to lessen its involvement in the low-margin television sector.
Sony Group Corp confirmed that it will offload a 51 percent stake in its home entertainment division to TCL Electronics Holdings Limited.
As part of this collaboration, both companies will establish a joint venture set to commence operations in April 2027.
The new joint venture will produce televisions under the Sony and Bravia labels, utilizing TCL’s advanced display technology.
According to Sony, this partnership will enable it to maintain its strong brand identity in living rooms worldwide while minimizing the costs and low profitability associated with television hardware manufacturing.
The company, globally recognized for its PlayStation brand, has been progressively redirecting its focus from traditional consumer electronics to sectors with higher growth and margins.
TCL, one of the oldest and largest electronic corporations in China, has been rapidly expanding its global presence in recent years.

At CES 2026 in Las Vegas, TCL made headlines by taking over one of the most prominent exhibition spaces previously occupied by Samsung Electronics.
