Colombo, September 10 (NationPress) The co-hosts, Sri Lanka, have unveiled their squad for the upcoming Women’s ODI World Cup, which will be held from September 30 to November 2. The team will be captained by the seasoned player Chamari Athapaththu.
Joining her are the experienced trio of Harshitha Samarawickrama, Nilakshika Silva, and Anushka Sanjeewani, who will be crucial in bolstering the batting lineup. The squad also includes energetic newcomers like opener Vishmi Gunarathne, along with bowlers Dewmi Vihanga and Malki Madara.
These players, along with Kavisha Dilhari and Imesha Dulani, are gearing up for their first-ever ODI World Cup, while off-spinner Inoshi Fernando will serve as the traveling reserve. Sri Lanka will kick off their campaign against hosts India at the ACA Stadium in Guwahati on September 30.
Following this, they will play at the R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo, facing the defending champions Australia, England, New Zealand, and South Africa on October 4, 11, 14, and 17, respectively.
Sri Lanka will then head to Navi Mumbai to compete against Bangladesh on October 20 before concluding their league stage with a match against Pakistan in Colombo on October 24.
This tournament marks Sri Lanka’s seventh appearance in the Women’s ODI World Cup, following their absence in the 2022 edition in New Zealand. They secured qualification by finishing fifth in the ICC Women's Championship standings.
Before the World Cup, Sri Lanka will also engage in warm-up matches against Pakistan and Bangladesh at the Colombo Cricket Club Ground on September 25 and 27.
