Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, March 17 (NationPress) Filmmaker Sriram Raghavan shared an intriguing narrative about how he secured the script for his acclaimed black comedy, "Andhadhun".
In a detailed discussion with IANS, Raghavan recounted how he received a short story from fellow filmmaker Hemant Rao. He was so captivated by it that he promptly reached out to him, proposing an adaptation into a feature film.
Following that initial conversation, the duo began exploring various avenues to expand the narrative.
Raghavan described the inception of "Andhadhun", stating, “It was around 10:30 PM when I checked my inbox and found a short film from Hemant Rao. I was so impressed that I called him right away, suggesting, 'Why not turn this into a feature film?'”
He noted that as they delved deeper into the story, it naturally evolved. “There was a particular situation presented, and I immediately began proposing, 'What if this occurs? What if that happens?' Several 'what-ifs' unfolded, leading to a smooth progression until nearly the midpoint of the film.”
Raghavan not only directed the film but also co-wrote the script alongside Hemanth Rao, Pooja Ladha Surti, Arijit Biswas, and Yogesh Chandekar.
Featuring a talented cast including Ayushmann Khurrana, Tabu, Radhika Apte, and Anil Dhawan, "Andhadhun" tells the captivating story of a blind piano player embroiled in the murder of a retired actor.
Produced by Sudhanshu Vats, Ajit Andhare, Gaurav Nanda, Ashok Vasodia, Kewal Garg, and Sanjay Routray under the banners of Viacom 18 Motion Pictures and Matchbox Pictures, the film's cinematography was handled by K. U. Mohanan, with Pooja Ladha Surti leading the editing team.
The narrative was later adapted into Telugu as "Maestro" (2021) and in Malayalam titled "Bhramam" (2021), with a Tamil version named "Andhagan" set for 2024.
