New Delhi, Sep 24 (NationPress) A special CBI court located in Patna has found two officers of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) guilty of misappropriating a substantial amount of seized goods valued at Rs 24 lakh and has sentenced them to one year of rigorous imprisonment (RI).
The court determined that Vijay Kumar Jha, who was serving as Assistant Commandant, and Apurva Sarkar, a Sub-Inspector, both from the 19th Battalion, SSB, Bathnaha in Forbesganj, were involved in a conspiracy to misappropriate a truckload of betel nuts seized during operations.
In addition to imprisonment, both officers have been ordered to pay a fine of Rs 50,000 each.
This case traces back to 2009 when the CBI, acting on tip-off information, registered a case against Anand Kumar, the then Deputy Commandant of the same battalion, along with Jha and Sarkar, alleging they conspired to fraudulently divert seized goods for personal gain.
