Seoul, Nov 5 (NationPress) On Wednesday, authorities in Seoul initiated a request for an arrest warrant for a man in his sixties who is alleged to have embarked on a violent stabbing spree at an office in eastern Seoul, resulting in the death of one of three victims, as reported by officials.
The Gangdong Police Station has submitted the arrest warrant for the individual, identified only by the surname Jo, on grounds of murder, following the death of one victim from injuries sustained in the attack the previous day.
Jo is accused of launching assaults on two women aged in their 50s and 60s, and a man in his 70s, inside the office of a redevelopment cooperative located in Cheonho-dong, Gangdong Ward, on Tuesday, where he previously served as the cooperative's chief, according to Yonhap News Agency.
The suspect, who was the former head of the cooperative, was detained at the scene on charges of attempted murder and is currently being interrogated to uncover his motives.
Jo had been dismissed from his position in July after being investigated for allegations of sexually assaulting a female coworker. He was recently indicted for potential punitive measures.
The female victim in her 50s succumbed to her injuries at a hospital the prior day, having sustained severe wounds to her neck. The other two victims also suffered neck injuries and are currently recovering in medical facilities, as stated by police officials.
Authorities are probing the underlying motive behind the crime, considering the possibility that the suspect committed the stabbings out of resentment for being terminated from his role as the cooperative's chief.
Initially, police charged Jo with attempted murder, but following the victim's death, a murder charge was added. They are also contemplating the addition of a charge for retaliatory murder, which, if convicted, could result in a prison sentence of no less than 10 years.
Furthermore, police have announced their intention to commend two neighbors who aided in the apprehension of the suspect.
