Mumbai, Nov 4 (NationPress) Director and writer Suparn Verma is eagerly anticipating the release of his new film ‘Haq’. He has claimed that the legendary character the Tramp, brought to life by Charlie Chaplin, stands out as the most political figure in the history of cinema.
Verma believes that every form of art serves distinct purposes, and intriguingly, politics tends to infiltrate various art forms, regardless of the creator's original intent.
In a discussion with IANS at a luxurious venue in the Juhu area of Mumbai, he elaborated on the intricate relationship between art and politics.
He explained to IANS, “Every form of art serves a unique purpose. When I mention ‘politics’, I am not solely referring to governance or administrative matters. Politics exists in various forms, including comedy, and Chaplin's films address the social divide between the wealthy and the impoverished. For example, the Tramp epitomizes the most political character imaginable, symbolizing the divide between the haves and have-nots. In comedy, there's often a bully, which reflects the politics of power. Where there is power, there is politics—this holds true even in family films, where adult-child dynamics introduce their own political nuances. I discuss politics in this fundamental sense; it is an intrinsic part of life, often unique, and does not always carry a negative connotation, yet it is omnipresent.”
He further stated, “Artists strive to create works that will be remembered; a scent can evoke memories, and a song can transport us through time—these are, in essence, our time machines. As human beings, we attempt to draw lines in the sand, even as they continually erode. This endeavor to leave a lasting mark is a fundamental aspect of our nature.”
In other news, ‘Haq’ is scheduled for release on November 7 in theaters.
