Bhubaneswar, Jan 12 (NationPress) Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday characterized Swami Vivekananda as a cornerstone of nation-building and a guiding light of moral values.
During a ceremony commemorating the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda and National Youth Day at Utkal University, Majhi remarked, "Swami Vivekananda serves as a limitless source of motivation for India’s youth. He had steadfast faith in the younger generation and always believed they hold the power to shape India’s future."
He referred to Swamiji’s teachings, stating that education transcends mere theoretical knowledge or rote learning. According to Swami Vivekananda, the essence of education is found in discipline, devotion, self-restraint, and self-confidence.
The Chief Minister also emphasized Swami Vivekananda’s focus on uniting Western scientific thought with Vedanta philosophy.
In celebration of the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram, millions of students from various educational institutions across the state sang the national song in unison on National Youth Day and the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda on Monday.
As per an official press release, over 16,000 educational institutions, including schools, colleges, and universities, took part in the event, with more than 21 lakh students joining together to honor the nation.
The mass singing occurred simultaneously at 11 am in both public and private institutions throughout the state.
The statewide initiative was collaboratively organized by the Odia Language, Literature and Culture Department, the Higher Education Department, the School and Mass Education Department, and the Sports and Youth Services Department.
Countless students, teachers, and staff united to engage in the mass singing, fostering a powerful atmosphere of patriotism and unity.
Expressing joy over the event's successful execution, the Minister of Higher Education, Sports and Youth Services, and Odia Language, Literature and Culture, Suryabanshi Suraj, referred to it as a "historic moment."
He remarked that the collective performance of the national song by the youth showcases the state’s profound sense of commitment and dedication to the nation.
The Minister also extended congratulations to all participating institutions, students, teachers, and staff for contributing to the success of the Vande Mataram mass singing event.
