New Delhi, Jan 12 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi has consistently adhered to the principles and teachings of Swami Vivekananda throughout his extensive public career. His unwavering commitment to Swami Vivekananda’s teachings is exemplified in a hand-written note from PM Modi’s personal diary.

The Modi Archive, a well-known social media platform on X, recently shared an image of this personal diary, illustrating how the Prime Minister has embraced Swami Vivekananda’s vision by prioritizing ‘service over self’.

In their post, the Modi Archive quoted Swami Vivekananda: “Come, let us all sacrifice our lives, you and I, each one of you. This and many such acts are merely a beginning. Believe me, from the sacrifice of every drop of our lifeblood will be born great, heroic workers and warriors of God, who will revolutionize the entire world.”

The post further emphasized that on National Youth Day 2026, the nation should pay tribute to Swami Vivekananda’s vision by adopting the principle of 'service over self', which remains a cornerstone of the Prime Minister’s governance and public service philosophy.

Earlier that day, PM Modi paid homage to Swami Vivekananda on his birth anniversary, also celebrated as National Youth Day, expressing that this day instills new strength and confidence in the younger generations.

The government declared January 12 as National Youth Day in 1984 to inspire young people by connecting them with the teachings of Swami Vivekananda while promoting their active participation in national development.

In a post shared on X, PM Modi stated, “My respectful tribute to Swami Vivekananda, the powerful source of inspiration for India’s youth power, on his birth anniversary. His personality and works continuously infuse new energy into the resolve for a Viksit Bharat. My wish is that this divine occasion of National Youth Day brings new strength and self-confidence to all fellow citizens, especially our young companions.”

He remarked that Swami Vivekananda’s birth anniversary serves as a source of inspiration for society.

In a video message, the Prime Minister mentioned, “What Swami Vivekananda gave to the country and society transcends time and place, inspiring every generation. He showed us the way. It was Swami Vivekananda who emphasized that fearless, selfless, pure-hearted, courageous, and ambitious youth are the foundation upon which the nation's future is built. He had immense faith in the youth and their power.”

Addressing the youth, PM Modi urged, “Now, you have to live up to his faith. Today, as the world looks to India with great hope, it is because of all of you, my young friends. Today, be it a village, a city, or a town, the enthusiasm of the youth is everywhere. I extend my best wishes to all of you on National Youth Day.”

Swami Vivekananda was born on January 12, 1863, in Kolkata and is celebrated for introducing Indian philosophies, including Vedanta and Yoga, to the Western world.

His iconic address at the 1893 World’s Parliament of Religions in Chicago ignited interfaith dialogue and revitalized Hinduism as a global religion.

He championed Indian nationalism, social reform, and unity, encouraging youth to serve humanity, and founded the Ramakrishna Mission for education and service.
