Could Tamil Nadu Adopt an Ayodhya-Inspired Governance Model if BJP Gains Power?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chennai, Dec 6 (NationPress) BJP President of Tamil Nadu, Nainar Nagenthran, emphasized on Saturday that there is absolutely nothing inappropriate about the state implementing an Ayodhya-inspired model for governance and development. He asserted that it is vital for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to come to power to actualize this vision.
While addressing reporters in Chennai during the commemoration of B.R. Ambedkar's death anniversary, Nagenthran remarked that the party had made a commitment on Ambedkar Remembrance Day to secure the NDA alliance's victory in the upcoming elections. “Ayodhya is an integral part of India. There is no issue in Tamil Nadu embracing the Ayodhya model,” he stated. “We are all familiar with the concept of Rama Rajya—a governance that is just and prosperous. The NDA symbolizes this governance. It must thrive.”
In light of the ongoing debate surrounding the lighting of the Karthigai Deepam lamp atop the Thiruparankundram hill, Nagenthran affirmed that the BJP will steadfastly support traditional customs. He pointed out that a dargah located near the hilltop has raised no objections to the lighting ceremony.
“The judge's ruling explicitly states that individuals are permitted only to light the lamp and not to enter the dargah vicinity. Even those at the dargah have not contested the ruling,” he explained.
Nagenthran also took a jab at DMK leaders, especially Kanimozhi and Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin. “What issue does Kanimozhi have? Udhayanidhi claims democracy will be obliterated. I contend that he is merely in the initial stages of such a destructive mindset. Their aspirations will never be realized,” he asserted. He also reiterated that Sanatana Dharma cannot be dismantled by anyone.
Questioning the DMK's development claims, the BJP leader challenged their performance. “Did they incorporate the Madurai and Coimbatore Metro projects in the 2021 funding request? Have they constructed an airport in Thoothukudi for Rs 350 crore? Flights are already operational from Madurai to Colombo and Singapore. What progress are they discussing?” he queried.
Nagenthran asserted that the NDA is gaining traction in Tamil Nadu and anticipates that several parties will join the alliance. “A single day is sufficient for the alliance to solidify. The DMK speaks of 100 days of governance, but the public will decide. The NDA will undoubtedly form the government,” he stated.
Nagenthran’s statements indicate the BJP’s renewed strategy to frame the political landscape in both ideological and developmental contexts ahead of the state Assembly elections.
