Key Takeaways
Chennai, Feb 26 (NationPress) The president of the Tamil Nadu BJP, Nainar Nagenthran, stated on Thursday that he is optimistic about the party winning between 20 and 30 seats in the forthcoming Assembly elections. He suggested that several BJP legislators could potentially become ministers if the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) manages to form the government in the state.
After officially launching the BJP’s Assembly election headquarters in Aminjikarai, Chennai, Nagenthran emphasized that the party is on the brink of significant progress.
The inauguration ceremony featured the Union Minister of State, L. Murugan, who raised the party flag. Prominent leaders like Sudhakar Reddy, Pon Radhakrishnan, Tamilisai Soundararajan, MLA Vanathi Srinivasan, former AIADMK minister Gokul Indira, AMMK deputy general secretary Senthamizhan, among others, were also in attendance.
Nagenthran criticized the DMK government, claiming that law and order in Tamil Nadu has declined and that the administration has not honored its electoral commitments.
"This government does not serve the people. Even appointing a DGP has turned into a struggle. The DMK thinks it can secure votes through money distribution, but the people are well aware," he asserted.
He argued for a "double-engine government"—an arrangement where the same party or alliance governs both the Centre and the State—suggesting that this would facilitate quicker execution of welfare initiatives and development projects in Tamil Nadu.
When asked about V.K. Sasikala’s plans to establish a new political party, he dismissed any notion that it could have an impact on the BJP-led alliance.
"We have not engaged in any discussions with her. Her announcement will not influence our alliance whatsoever," he stated.
Regarding the seat-sharing negotiations with the AIADMK, Nagenthran mentioned that talks would commence only after Prime Minister Narendra Modi visits Tamil Nadu.
"We have not made any demands to the AIADMK. There are no issues between our parties," he added.
Earlier at the launch event, senior BJP leader V.P. Duraisamy indicated that multiple BJP members could be appointed as ministers in the next government.
Supporting this claim, Nagenthran remarked, "If fortune favors us, 20 to 30 BJP MLAs will emerge victorious, and some of them could ascend to ministerial positions."
His remarks, hinting at a potential coalition government, have ignited renewed political discussions, particularly as AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami has consistently maintained that his party will independently form the government.
