Chennai, May 24 (NationPress) The government of Tamil Nadu is preparing to unveil a significant program aimed at delivering high-speed internet connectivity to all rural residences within the state, with a goal of reaching one crore households annually.
This initiative is part of the Central government's 'BharatNet' project, which seeks to eliminate the digital divide in rural areas of India.
In Tamil Nadu, this project is led by the Tamil Nadu FiberNet Corporation Ltd (TANFINET). The establishment of high-speed internet through optical fibre cables is being rolled out in 12,525 gram panchayats throughout the state.
The foundational work started in 2018 and has now entered its concluding phase. To date, optical fibre cables have been installed over nearly 55,000 kilometres, covering 11,800 villages.
