New Delhi, Nov 4 (NationPress) In a significant development, the Crime Branch of the Delhi Police has apprehended two “desperate” criminals who were wanted in connection with a violent attack and rioting incident that transpired in North Delhi earlier this year, as reported by the Delhi Police on Tuesday.
This arrest follows a rigorous operation spearheaded by Inspector Satender Poonia along with his team from the Intelligence and Surveillance Cell (ISC).
As per police reports, the attack unfolded on the night of July 18, 2025, in the Bhalswa Dairy area. Four identified individuals, along with several unidentified accomplices, allegedly targeted members of a neighboring family with knives and sticks, intending to kill.
Five individuals sustained injuries during the assault. Post-attack, the assailants fled the scene.
"During the incident, five people were injured, and the attackers escaped after committing the crime," the police noted in their press release.
A case (FIR No. 486/25) has been filed under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at PS Bhalswa Dairy.
Throughout the investigation, authorities identified Md. Mumtaz Ansari as the principal conspirator behind this crime.
While seven adult suspects and three juveniles had already been apprehended, the Crime Branch persisted in tracking down the remaining suspects.
In a coordinated operation that utilized both technical surveillance and human intelligence, a police team led by Inspector Poonia and Sohan Lal located and arrested Mumtaz Ansari along with his associate Shamim from the Inderlok area.
According to police statements, Ansari, aged 29 and residing in Mojiwala Bagh, Azadpur, is classified as a “Bad Character” by PS Bhalswa Dairy and has a history of habitual offenses.
He was released on bail in June 2025 and has been implicated in numerous cases over the years across various North Delhi police stations, including charges related to attempted murder, conspiracy to murder, possession of arms, rioting, and theft.
Additionally, he has outstanding Non-Bailable Warrants from previous cases filed at PS Mahendra Park and PS Model Town.
His co-accused Shamim, aged 50 and also a resident of Azadpur, was apprehended alongside him.
During interrogation, Ansari reportedly confessed to orchestrating and instigating the attack.
Authorities stated that further investigation and legal proceedings are currently in progress.
