Why is Tejashwi Yadav’s Name Missing from the Voter List?

Patna, Aug 2 (NationPress) As Bihar Assembly elections draw near, the revision of the voter list has ignited significant political turmoil, particularly when RJD Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav found his name absent from the electoral rolls during a live press conference in Patna.

In a striking turn of events, Yadav utilized the Election Commission of India's mobile application to verify his voter status by entering his name and EPIC number — only to discover no results.

Displaying the outcome to journalists, he quipped: “My name isn’t on the voter list post-revision. This implies I don’t reside in Bihar and can’t contest the elections.”

He added: “While I can physically confirm my details here in Bihar, what about the disadvantaged and migrant voters working outside the state? If their names are absent on the app, how will they find out? Is the Election Commission operating a fraudulent app?”

Tejashwi Yadav asserted that he had submitted the form and that the BLO had collected it from his home.

The political climate has intensified following the removal of over 65 lakh voters — about 8.5 percent of the total electorate — during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2025 by the Election Commission. Yadav alleged that between 20,000 to 30,000 names were eliminated in each Assembly constituency.

He also pointed out that the names of RJD staff, a senior IAS officer, and his spouse were missing from the rolls, implying either a systemic error or political malfeasance.

“There has been a complete lack of transparency. Political parties weren’t notified before names were deleted. Even the Supreme Court’s guidelines have been overlooked,” he remarked.

Yadav accused the Election Commission of acting under political influence, labeling it a “Godi Commission” — a term frequently used to criticize institutions seen as biased towards the ruling party.

“The Election Commission appears to be taking directives from Gujarat. It has become a mere puppet,” he stated.

Yadav demanded that the Commission release comprehensive details of the deleted voters — including EPIC numbers, addresses, and booth data — to facilitate analysis and validation by political parties.

He argued that the absence of such information hinders accountability and democratic oversight.

He further expressed: “Democracy is in jeopardy. If this is the process, the elections will not be equitable. It seems a particular party is being favored from the very start.”

Tejashwi revealed that an RJD delegation had approached the Election Commission on Friday to voice their concerns, yet their plea was dismissed.

He urged both the government and the Election Commission to reconsider the election timeline and extend the revision process, given the extent of the discrepancies.

“There must be a fair chance to file claims and objections. The system cannot silently disenfranchise millions of voters,” he asserted.

According to Election Commission regulations, voters can submit claims and objections until September 1, 2025, under the current revision. Any eligible voter whose name has been removed can submit Form 6 along with the required declarations.
