Hyderabad/New Delhi, Feb 26 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Telangana, A. Revanth Reddy, had a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the capital city on Wednesday, where he requested the Central Government’s endorsement for the second phase of the Hyderabad Metro along with other significant infrastructure initiatives.
During their discussion, the Chief Minister highlighted various essential developmental projects and welfare programs that the state government is implementing in Telangana.
Accompanied by Minister for Information Technology and Industry D. Sridhar Babu, he expressed the need for the Prime Minister’s complete backing for the 'TelanganaRising' vision, aiming to propel the state towards its ambitious $1 trillion GDP target.
Moreover, he sought the Prime Minister's approval for financial assistance and clearances for vital infrastructure urban transformation projects.
The Chief Minister’s Office reported that he specifically requested endorsement for the second phase of the Hyderabad Metro, aimed at enhancing connectivity within Greater Hyderabad.
Revanth Reddy pointed out to the Prime Minister that the previous administration had neglected the expansion of the Hyderabad Metro. He elaborated on the proposal for the second phase, which carries an estimated budget of Rs.24,269 crore to extend the Metro system by 76.4 km across five corridors.
Stressing its importance in alleviating congestion in Hyderabad and promoting smooth urban mobility, he urged PM Modi to expedite the necessary approvals.
The CM noted that 90 percent of land acquisition has been finalized for the Regional Ring Road (RRR) northern stretch and urged the PM to immediately authorize the southern segment to fully realize the RRR's potential.
He communicated to the Prime Minister that the state government is prepared to cover 50 percent of the land acquisition costs for the southern stretch of the RRR, which is essential for enhancing intra-state connectivity.
Additionally, Revanth Reddy detailed a proposal to establish a Regional Ring Rail along the RRR, which would connect Telangana with neighboring states through an efficient high-speed rail system. He emphasized its significance in boosting trade, industry, and passenger mobility, marking it as a transformative addition to the transport landscape of South India.
Recognizing Telangana’s landlocked position, he advocated for the development of dry ports along the RRR corridor. These hubs would serve as crucial export-import centers, facilitating smoother trade operations.
The Chief Minister suggested creating a dedicated Greenfield Road and a parallel railway network to connect Telangana’s dry ports with seaports in Andhra Pradesh, thereby establishing the state as a major logistics center.
CM Revanth Reddy requested Rs. 20,000 crore in central funding for an ambitious initiative to revitalize the Musi River in Hyderabad. This initiative includes the development of Bapu Ghat at the confluence of the Esa and Musa rivers, constructing 27 Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) to purify the river, building retaining walls and embankments to prevent encroachments, and integrating the Musi with the Godavari River to ensure sustainable water flow.
He also appealed to PM Modi to facilitate the transfer of 222.7 acres for the Gandhi Sarovar Project, further enhancing Hyderabad’s water security and environmental sustainability.
Stating that Telangana is strategically positioned to emerge as a leading semiconductor manufacturing hub due to its advanced infrastructure, skilled workforce, and favorable investor policies, CM Revanth Reddy sought PM Modi’s approval to launch the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) in Telangana.
In light of increasing cybercrimes, drug-related issues, and urban security threats, CM Revanth Reddy requested the authorization of 29 additional IPS cadre posts for Telangana. Presently, the state has 61 sanctioned posts, with 15 more assigned in 2015 following a review.
