Key Takeaways
Imphal, March 11 (NationPress) In a significant operation, security forces in Manipur apprehended ten militants affiliated with various insurgent groups across six districts within a span of 24 hours, according to police reports released on Wednesday.
A police spokesperson confirmed that these militants were captured in the districts of Imphal West, Imphal East, Tengnoupal, Bishnupur, Kakching, and Thoubal.
The detained individuals are linked to notable groups such as the People's Liberation Army (PLA), its political wing the Revolutionary People's Front (RPF), the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), and the People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK).
As reported by the police, these militants were engaged in a range of criminal activities, including kidnapping and the coercive collection of 'subscriptions' from contractors, government officials, merchants, and other civilians.
In a parallel move as part of the ongoing anti-narcotics initiative, central and state security personnel successfully obliterated over 35 acres of illegal poppy farming in the mountainous areas of Kangpokpi and Ukhrul, effectively thwarting efforts to produce opium valued at several crores of rupees.
Separate operations also resulted in the arrest of six drug traffickers in the Imphal East and Thoubal regions.
During these operations, authorities seized 16.60 kg of dry ganja, 5.7 grams of brown sugar, along with multiple identity cards and mobile devices.
In ongoing routine missions, security forces have also confiscated arms and ammunition from various districts. Comprising both central and state agencies, security forces have ramped up their crackdown on militant activities, conducting extensive search operations and area domination drives in mixed-population and vulnerable regions throughout the state.
To further enhance security, a total of 115 checkpoints have been established across Manipur's valley and hill districts to restrict the movement of illegal elements and suspicious vehicles. Security personnel are also providing escorts for vehicles, including trucks transporting essential goods along the Imphal–Jiribam National Highway (NH-37).
Robust security measures and convoy protection are maintained in sensitive areas to facilitate safe traffic movement.
The Manipur Police have also appealed to the public to refrain from believing unverified information circulating on social media, warning against misleading videos and audio clips.
"The validity of any circulating video or audio can be confirmed via the Central Control Room. Sharing or posting false or misleading content on social media could lead to legal repercussions," the police statement cautioned.
