Vietnam President To Lam gets ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan

Vietnamese President To Lam was accorded a ceremonial welcome at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on Wednesday, 7 May 2025, marking the formal commencement of his first state visit to India. President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi warmly received the visiting leader, as children dressed in traditional costumes and holding both the Vietnamese national flag and India's Tricolour lined the forecourt.

Arrival and Early Engagements

President To Lam arrived in Bihar's Bodh Gaya on Tuesday, 6 May, where Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary extended a formal welcome. The Vietnamese President offered prayers at the revered Mahabodhi Temple before flying to New Delhi later that day. At the airport, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai received him.

On Tuesday evening, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval called on President To Lam, holding discussions focused on strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations. Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed the meeting, posting on X:
