Mumbai, Nov 24 (NationPress) Uddhav Thackeray, the Chief of Shiv Sena-UBT, and Raj Thackeray, the President of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, have jointly written to Dinesh Waghmare, the Maharashtra State Election Commissioner, urging immediate action to rectify significant irregularities and confusion in the electoral rolls prepared for the forthcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections.

They have insisted that the State Election Commission must provide a 21-day window for public suggestions and objections or else suspend the elections until the electoral rolls are corrected.

Both leaders expressed concern over alarming discrepancies and frequent modifications found in the recent voter lists, which jeopardize the transparency and integrity of the electoral process.

In their letter, they highlighted that the final revised voter list for the BMC elections, dated October 30, 2025, was not published in a timely or clear manner, leaving voters and political parties in the dark.

They raised concerns about the delays in updating the women's supplementary electoral rolls and questioned the State Election Commission regarding its lack of clarity on essential procedural matters.

Aditya Thackeray, a leader from Shiv Sena-UBT and former Minister, informed the press that the confusion arose from the addition of new names and the alteration or removal of existing ones, often executed without appropriate notifications or adherence to established guidelines.

He expressed alarm at the emergence of duplicate voters, claiming that over 900,000 duplicate entries have been detected within the electoral rolls.

Referencing the joint appeal from the Thackeray cousins, he emphasized the need for correction of these discrepancies before the elections, demanding rigorous scrutiny of the procedures for updating and verifying voter registrations.

Uddhav and Raj Thackeray also criticized the State Election Commission for not implementing clear mechanisms and technical protocols for voter registration in Mumbai, which has resulted in confusion and potential disenfranchisement.

"Is there no technical wisdom left, or is it a case of 'less intelligence, more confusion'?" they questioned, urging authorities to ensure that legitimate voters are safeguarded and that all irregularities are promptly addressed.

Both leaders called for a halt to any further updates to the voter list until the existing issues have been resolved and for the public to be informed about the measures being taken to ensure a transparent election.

They cautioned that failure to act could tarnish Mumbai's democratic reputation, challenging officials to prove their commitment to protecting citizens' electoral rights.

The Thackeray duo has demanded accountability, calling on the State Election Commission to restore order and trust in the electoral system.
