The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration, aims to modernize over 1,300 railway stations throughout India. The objective is not only to beautify stations but also to create areas that are cleaner, more accessible, and equipped with modern conveniences. This encompasses facilities for differently-abled individuals, enhanced infrastructure, and improved transport links.
On May 22, Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate 103 Amrit Bharat stations via video conference. These stations, spanning 86 districts across 18 states and union territories, have been developed at an investment of over Rs 1,100 crore, as part of a comprehensive effort to modernize the country’s railway framework.
Launched in 2021, the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme commenced with the modernization of the Gandhinagar Railway Station, followed by the Rani Kamalapati Railway Station (previously known as Habibganj). These undertakings have marked the onset of an extensive redevelopment strategy that continues to transform India’s railway stations.
Under this long-term scheme, each station's redevelopment is tailored to its specific needs, with additional phases of work set to further the transformation. Passengers can anticipate enhanced entry and exit points, upgraded waiting zones, and the addition of elevators, escalators, and free Wi-Fi where appropriate.
