The suspects consist of two second-year B. Tech students from the University of Hyderabad, also referred to as Hyderabad Central University (HCU).
K. Balaraju, Inspector of Police at the Gachibowli Police Station, stated on Monday that they have effectively resolved a significant theft case reported at the CR Rao Advanced Institute of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science (AIMSCS) located within the University of Hyderabad in Gachibowli, where 60 laptops were stolen during the night of February 9.
The perpetrators gained entry into the AIMSCS computer lab by breaking through a window. Prior to their intrusion, they severed the CCTV cable and fled with all 60 laptops.
A case was registered under Sections 331(4) and 305(a) of the BNS on February 9. In a prompt response, the investigation team identified, tracked, and arrested the suspects in a brief timeframe, ensuring the complete recovery of the stolen property.
The accused have been named as Regula Chandra Shekar, 30, from Prakasam district in Andhra Pradesh, along with Cherukuri Sai Charan and Uduthalapelly Ashwin Rao, both B. Tech 2nd year CSE students at HCU.
According to police, the accused, well-acquainted with the campus's layout and security protocols, executed the theft during late-night hours, unlawfully entering the premises and absconding with 60 laptops. The stolen items were allegedly intended for illicit sale.
Upon receiving the complaint, police filed an FIR and assembled special investigation teams. They diligently reviewed CCTV footage and other technical evidence, which led to the swift identification and arrest of the suspects.
Throughout the inquiry, all stolen items were fully recovered. The suspects were presented to the Court and placed in judicial custody.
Police retrieved all 60 stolen laptops, along with three mobile phones and two vehicles utilized in the commission of the crime from the suspects' possession.
