Cyberabad Police Heighten Investigation into Secret Filming of Female Students at CMR Engineering College

Hyderabad, January 3 (NationPress) The Cyberabad police have escalated their investigation regarding allegations made by female students of CMR Engineering College claiming they were illegally recorded in the hostel washrooms. Meanwhile, the college administration has announced a three-day holiday in response to the situation.
The police have detained the hostel warden along with six mess workers for interrogation, and their mobile devices have been confiscated.
Protests erupted on the college grounds in Medchal, located on the outskirts of Hyderabad, on Wednesday night after students reported being secretly filmed in the washrooms.
A formal complaint was lodged on Thursday under Sections 77 (voyeurism) and 125 (endangering personal safety or life of others) of the Bharat Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Medchal Police Station of the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate.
The police apprehended six male staff members from the hostel mess, as well as warden Preethi Reddy, for questioning.
Assistant Commissioner of Police B. Srinivas Reddy stated that a case has also been filed against the college administration for negligence. He pointed out that the management employed male workers in the mess and provided them accommodations adjacent to the ladies’ washroom, thereby granting them access to the washroom’s ventilator.
A female student reported observing the shadow of an individual and informed the warden; however, due to a lack of response, the students initiated the protest, fearing that their videos might have been recorded.
Tension escalated on campus as student organizations such as NSUI, SFI, and ABVP joined the protest, demanding rigorous action against those responsible.
In light of the escalating situation and the ongoing investigation, the college management declared a three-day holiday.
The ACP mentioned the confiscation of 12 mobile phones belonging to the mess workers. “So far, we have not discovered any evidence of video recordings. No explicit content has been found on their devices; however, we are checking if any videos have been deleted,” he stated.
Fingerprint analysts collected samples from imprints detected on the glass of the ventilator. They are currently verifying whether these imprints correspond with the fingerprints of any of the workers.
The ACP urged parents to remain calm amid rumors regarding the recording of 150-300 videos.
The Telangana State Women’s Commission has initiated an inquiry into the matter. Taking suo moto notice of media coverage, the Commission has issued a notice to the Commissioner of Police, Cyberabad, demanding prompt action and a report on the actions taken.
