Thrissur, Aug 12 (NationPress) The ruling Left parties -- CPI(M) and the CPI -- alongside the Congress party intensified their criticism regarding the alleged voter roll fraud in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The accusations revolve around the Thrissur Lok Sabha constituency, where the BJP claimed victory in 2024.

State Education Minister V. Sivankutty has called for a re-election in Thrissur due to these allegations.

The BJP candidate Suresh Gopi secured a win by over 70,000 votes in a constituency that was previously a stronghold for the Congress, whose candidate was the incumbent MP.

The Congress candidate finished in third place, while former State Minister and CPI leader V.S. Sunil Kumar took second place.

On Tuesday, Sunil Kumar claimed that votes from BJP leaders outside the district were fraudulently included in the voter rolls.

“K.R. Shaji, a resident of Nadathara in Varavoor panchayat, and his family were improperly listed in the Thrissur constituency voter list. According to Sunil Kumar, Shaji is actually a permanent resident of Chelakkara constituency and resides with his family in Nadathara. His wife and mother are registered voters there and participated in the panchayat elections at Varavoor,” said Sunil Kumar.

However, he asserted that in 2024, their names appeared on the voter list for Poongunnam polling station in Thrissur.

Specifically, he alleged they were listed under flat numbers 1119 and 1121 in the Inland Flats building.

“If this is true, it suggests that thousands of outsiders might have been brought in by the BJP,” he stated, deeming it a significant manipulation of the electoral process.

In the meantime, Congress leaders have also raised concerns about voter list fraud in Thrissur.

Former councillor Valsala Baburaj reported that 79 individuals were irregularly added to the rolls from a single apartment complex -- Shankarankulangara Flats in Poongunnam. She further alleged that 38 additional names were improperly added from the nearby Water Lily Flats.

According to Valsala, Congress booth agents filed complaints with the District Collector, resulting in authorities preventing these voters from casting their ballots.

“Out of these, only one person managed to vote,” Valsala noted.

The revelations have sparked political turmoil in the district, with both CPI and Congress accusing the BJP of manipulating the voter list to secure an unfair electoral advantage.

Election officials have yet to respond officially to the allegations, but the situation is expected to escalate political tensions as parties demand a comprehensive investigation into the alleged tampering of Thrissur’s electoral rolls.
