Thousands of residents, students, and officials participated in Tiranga Yatras across Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, 13 August, as part of the nationwide 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign, carrying the national flag in a show of patriotic solidarity just days before Independence Day. Mega rallies were held simultaneously in Anantnag, Bandipora, and Srinagar, marking one of the largest coordinated flag-march events the Union Territory has seen in recent years.

Lt Governor Flags Off Srinagar March

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha formally flagged off the Tiranga Yatra from the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar in the morning. Addressing participants, Sinha said the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign has evolved into what he described as 'a festival of people's consciousness and a tradition of national love,' urging citizens to keep the spirit of the Tricolour alive not only on rooftops but also in their thoughts, character, and actions.

'A truly historic day! Proud to join the Tiranga Yatra and address the public in Srinagar today. On this sacred soil, the Tricolour is flying high as India's living conscience and Vande Mataram echoes as its immortal voice. It embodies our shared strength, unity, and unwavering patriotism,' Sinha said.

Rallies Span Anantnag and Bandipora

In Anantnag, the district administration organised a large-scale Tiranga Yatra with thousands of participants carrying the Tricolour through the district, aiming to strengthen national unity ahead of the Independence Day festivities. The event brought together citizens from various walks of life under a common patriotic banner.

In Bandipora, a mega Tiranga Rally wound from the Mini Secretariat to the Sports Stadium, drawing thousands of students and local residents. J&K Police personnel and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel also marched alongside public representatives. A student at the event noted that the rally ran 'from the DC Office to SK Stadium in Bandipora,' reflecting the broad community involvement on display.

Kashmir's Enthusiasm on Full View

Waqf Board Chairperson Darakhshan Andrabi, present at the Srinagar rally, highlighted the scale of participation. 'Today, the Tiranga Rally was held here under the leadership of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, with people from across Kashmir, especially children from all districts of Kashmir and bureaucrats, participating. The Tricolour is not just being waved in people's hands; you can see the enthusiasm and passion in everyone's hearts today,' she said.

About the Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign

The 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign was launched in 2022 under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav initiative, encouraging citizens nationwide to hoist or display the national flag at their homes as part of Independence Day celebrations. Over three years, it has grown from a government initiative into a broad public movement, with Tiranga Yatras and allied activities now organised across every state and Union Territory. In Jammu and Kashmir specifically, the campaign carries added resonance given the region's complex history and its ongoing integration into the national mainstream following the revocation of Article 370 in 2019.

With Independence Day on 15 August approaching, authorities are expected to intensify flag-hoisting drives and cultural events across the Union Territory in the coming days.
