Chennai, Feb 22 (NationPress) The Tamil Nadu BJP has escalated its criticism of the ruling DMK administration following the Madras High Court's directive to the State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Department (DVAC) to file an FIR against Municipal Administration and Water Supply Minister K. N. Nehru.

In response to the court’s ruling, TN BJP spokesperson A.N.S. Prasad characterized the order as a “major blow” to the DMK government, insisting that Chief Minister M.K. Stalin should promptly dismiss Nehru from his Cabinet.

He also called for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry, arguing that only a central agency could ensure a thorough and unbiased investigation into the alleged misconduct.

The Division Bench, led by Chief Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava, issued this directive while reviewing evidence presented, including claims made by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

In a complaint lodged with the Tamil Nadu Director General of Police in October 2025, the ED accused officials of extensive corruption in hiring practices and tender processes within the Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department.

The ED’s complaint suggests that the purported scam could involve financial discrepancies estimated between Rs 630 crore and Rs 1,020 crore. Allegations include the collection of bribes ranging from Rs 25 lakh to Rs 35 lakh per position for a total of 2,538 appointments.

Digital evidence, comprising WhatsApp messages, screenshots, transfer orders, and financial documents, purportedly obtained during raids at locations associated with individuals tied to the Minister, was also referenced.

Prasad emphasized that the High Court’s order affirmed the BJP's persistent claim of systemic corruption under the DMK rule.

He recalled Union Home Minister Amit Shah's earlier remarks labeling the state government a “20 percent commission government”, asserting that the judicial ruling highlighted the necessity for accountability.

The DMK has yet to provide a comprehensive response to these recent developments.

Legal analysts have pointed out that the order to file an FIR marks the initiation of a formal criminal investigation but does not imply a determination of guilt.

With Assembly elections approaching in 2026, this issue is likely to amplify the political rivalry between the BJP and the ruling DMK in the weeks ahead.

Point of View

It’s crucial to present this unfolding situation with balance. The Madras High Court's order signifies a pivotal moment in Tamil Nadu's political scene, raising questions about accountability and governance. While the BJP's call for a CBI investigation reflects ongoing concerns about corruption, the DMK's response will be closely scrutinized as the state approaches its next Assembly elections.
