Will TN BJP's Call for CBI Investigation Uncover a Rs 888-crore Job Scam?

Key Takeaways
Chennai, Oct 29 (NationPress) In a scathing critique of the DMK administration, Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagenthran has called for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into what he termed a colossal Rs 888-crore "cash-for-jobs scam" within the state's Municipal Administration and Water Supply (MAWS) Department.
Nagenthran accused the governing DMK of "sabotaging the future of honest Tamil youths" by allegedly accepting bribes of up to Rs 35 lakh per position to appoint unqualified candidates, thereby denying thousands of deserving applicants fair job opportunities.
He noted that during the 2024 recruitment drive for 2,538 vacancies in the department, more than 1.12 lakh individuals had submitted applications.
"Under the guise of appointments, the DMK enriched itself by collecting large sums for each position while hiring unworthy candidates," Nagenthran stated.
The BJP leader highlighted that the appointment letters for these roles were personally delivered by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin just two months prior, intensifying the seriousness of the alleged misconduct.
"If corruption can arise in a recruitment initiative led by the Chief Minister himself, one can only speculate about the number of similar scams that may have occurred over the past four-and-a-half years," he remarked.
Nagenthran further asserted that disclosures from the Enforcement Directorate - indicating pervasive bribery in the MAWS recruitment process - underscore the profound corruption entrenched in the DMK regime.
"From air quality to sanitation, corruption permeates every facet of this government. Now, even the aspirations of Tamil Nadu's youth are being compromised," he charged.
Describing this incident as "a significant betrayal of the state's unemployed and deserving youth," Nagenthran emphasized that only a CBI investigation could "unveil" the full scope of the misconduct.
"On behalf of the people of Tamil Nadu, the BJP demands a fair CBI investigation to shine a light on the masterminds behind this scandal and deliver justice to the victims of the DMK’s corrupt governance," he concluded.
